New robust rock drill gives optimized productivity in surface construction work

COP 1640
This year, Atlas Copco has launched a number of new hydraulic rock drills for both surface and underground applications. Now it is time for COP 1640 to make its entrance – a rock drill optimized for tough drilling in small to medium sized surface applications.

The COP 1640 completes the family of robust rock drills for small to medium sized surface construction applications, following in the footsteps of the COP 1240 and COP 1840.
Equipped for fast and tough drilling of holes in the 51–¬89¬ mm range, COP 1640 has the same large, robust driver and gearing as the COP 1840. This helps to extend the service life of wear-parts and keep operating costs to a minimum.

“It is an extremely efficient machine, providing high penetration and optimized productivity in the most challenging drilling conditions,” says Fredrik Öberg, Product Portfolio Manager Rock Drills at Atlas Copco.

There are three different stroke settings available which can be adjusted according to rock hardness, ensuring optimum penetration rate whatever the rock type.

The famous Atlas Copco dual-damping system provides very effective reflex damping and a special extractor is also available for drilling in particularly difficult rock.

As with all members of this Atlas Copco family of robust rock drills, the COP 1640 has a simple and straightforward design. This not only makes it easy and quick to service but also keeps spare parts costs down, adding to the overall productivity picture.

COP 1640, introduced in September, 2007, replaces the previous version COP 1838LE.
