Atlas Copco Wins Bid for Energy Efficient Screw Blowers from the Town of Huntington, NY
Following a competitive bid, the Town of Huntington, located on Long Island, NY, has determined the need for three Atlas Copco ZS75-K-900 low pressure screw blowers for the town’s wastewater treatment facility. The Town of Huntington expects to take delivery of their new Atlas Copco oil-free, low pressure blowers during the first quarter of 2012.
The ZS series of low pressure screw blowers, the latest addition to Atlas Copco’s proven energy-efficient range for air blowing applications, average 30 percent more energy-efficient operation than conventional lobe blower technology. Manufactured to the highest standards of quality and reliability, ZS low pressure blowers provide a continuous, highly-reliable, energy-efficient and 100 percent oil-free air supply.
In the wastewater industry, millions of bacteria feed on organic waste, breaking it up into carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water. Because the bacteria need oxygen, large quantities of air are blown in the aeration tanks. Air blowers typically represent up to 70 percent of the total electricity costs for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants.
Today, the majority of these plants use inefficient lobe technology, a technology that has seen little advancement since its introduction in the late 19th century. By reducing the energy usage of their aeration blower systems, the Town of Huntington will decrease energy costs while operating in a more efficient and environmentally friendly manner.
“Since energy consumption typically represents 80 percent of the lifecycle costs of a blower, energy efficiency is always a serious consideration,” said George Hubbard, low pressure sales manager - Eastern Region for Atlas Copco Compressors LLC. “Electricity rates on Long Island are higher than in many other parts of the country, so energy efficiency was a huge consideration for the Town of Huntington.”
