Atlas Copco enters dimension stone industry through the acquisition of Perfora

2012-11-07

In January, Atlas Copco acquired Perfora S.p.A., an Italian company that manufactures and sells drilling and cutting equipment for the dimension stone industry (DSI.) Perfora is now part of Atlas Copco’s Surface Drilling Equipment Division. The company’s products, which include diamond wire saws and drill rigs specifically designed for dimension stone applications, are distributed through direct sales and local dealers in selected countries around the world.

Atlas Copco USA - Matt Peterson, product line manager overseeing Atlas Copco products for the dimension stone industry.

Directly after the acquisition, Bob Fassl, business area president of Atlas Copco Mining and Rock Excavation Technique, commented on the new addition. “Perfora is a leading supplier in this segment, with a strong customer focus and high quality products,” he said. “We see good growth opportunities through this deal. As part of the Atlas Copco Group, Perfora becomes a unique global supplier of tailor made equipment for dimension stone producers.”

In the United States, Matt Peterson was appointed product line manager overseeing Atlas Copco products for the dimension stone industry. In his new role Peterson will report directly to Maurice Hunter, business line manager – Surface Drilling Equipment. Prior to accepting his new position, Peterson served as a quarry division manager, overseeing ten quarries as well as developing a new DSI product. His career began in Vermont working for Rock of Ages Corporation, one of the largest dimension stone producers in the United States. While on school breaks he worked as a laborer, quarrying, drilling and burning in several Rock of Ages quarries in Vermont and Canada.
After earning a degree in mechanical engineering, Peterson served in positions such as field and sales engineer and as a production engineer. He then accepted his first role as division manager where he developed and patented a product for use in quarries. Peterson’s experience adds up to over 20 years of knowledge and service in the dimension stone industry.

”The dimension stone industry will benefit from Atlas Copco’s acquisition of Perfora,” said Peterson. “Through the Atlas Copco store network, most dimension stone quarries will now have local access to service, spare parts and product knowledge.  Atlas Copco is the leader in the rock drilling and mining industry, and the addition of Perfora has made this true for the Dimension Stone Industry as well. The value of superior equipment produced by Atlas Copco’s Perfora unit is proven by the end result of delivering the lowest cost per cubic foot of material produced. I am thrilled to be part of the team helping integrate the Perfora product line into Atlas Copco’s product lineup in the US market,” stated Peterson.
