Industrial Tool Revolution Continues with Cordless Nutrunners
Atlas Copco Tools & Assembly Systems goes cordless once again with the Tensor STB battery nut runners using wireless communications technology.
Tensor STB Cordless Nut Runner, achieving power without the plug

Going cordless with battery nutrunner Tensor STB, all the power of Tensor without the plug!
The cordless Tensor STB, is the next-generation nut runner and newest member of the Tensor family, joining the broad range of Atlas Copco’s popular transducerized nut runner lineup. The STB has all of the same advantages with low noise and vibration levels, power-to-weight ratios and outstanding ergonomic qualities.
This battery-driven transducerized nut runner combines the superior performance and reliability of Atlas Copco electric nut runners with advanced process control offered by industrial radio control (IRC) systems. Leaving the cord behind, this combination gives operators the freedom to move along the assembly line and access confined areas while retaining complete control over exacting measurements to fasten bolt joints to the desired tightening torque. The latest addition to the Tensor family incorporates a complete fastening system including the tool, controller and software – the Tensor STB just leaves the cord behind.
The IRC system of the Tensor STB uses the same adaptive frequency hopping (AFH) techniques employed in Bluetooth technology. This ensures robust communications with significantly reduced interference, which is a huge advantage in noisy working environments. Eight sets of signal lights are situated on the ergonomic handle, providing the operator with instant access to vital data within a 100-meter range. Real-time data on actual torque values would enable operators to take immediate corrective action.
Working together with the Tensor STB is Power Focus 4000, Atlas Copco’s latest generation of advanced control systems for tightening. Basic PLC software functionality, including error-proofing, is now built into the controller itself, providing the capability to integrate and control the Tensor STB in the assembly line without requiring additional hardware. This makes it easy for operators to change configuration settings when modifications in assembly line protocols are required, allowing for greater flexibility while working toward zero-fault process control.
